Education

Education is considered as the underpinning tool for the Nation’s development, strong emphasis has been given to education in the country. The Ministry of Education intends to make education accessible to the entire population and to increase the literacy rate. The Dzongkhag Education Sector is liable in implementing educational plans and policies to achieve knowledge-based GNH society. The sector is mandated to provide equitable and inclusive quality education and lifelong learning for all through provision of the necessary learning space and opportunity to harness their full potential as productive citizens. In general prepares the young women and men with appropriate knowledge, skills and values to cope with the challenges of the 21st century.

In-line with the Ministry of Education’s vision, the Dzongkhag Education Sector is focused on achieving the following objectives:

  1. To improve relevance and quality of education
  2. To improve access to and sustainability of education
  3. To strengthen youth development programme and services
  4. To enhance adult literacy and lifelong learning
  5. To ensure full utilization of budget
  6. To enable effective and efficient ICT Service delivery

Samtse Dzongkhag has wide coverage of schools ranging from extended classrooms to Higher Secondary Schools covering nook and corner of the Dzongkhag. As of 2023, there are 7 Higher Secondary Schools, 2 Middle Secondary Schools, 5 Lower Secondary Schools, 22 Primary Schools and 6 Extended classrooms, 31 ECCD including 2 private and 1 NGO, 64 NFE centres. In addition to the normal educational services, Tendruk Central School provides special educational services to the special educational needy children.

The early childhood care and development centers which cater the needs of 3-6 years children are established in different parts of the District. Currently there are 31  ECCD Centres; 1 private ECCD Centre and 1 NGO ECCD Centres. To literate our population who did not get chance to attend the formal education, we have 64 Non-Formal Centres. Dzongkhag education office under Dzongkhag administration is directly accountable and responsible for monitoring and providing support services to the schools, ECCD centres and NFE centres within the district.
